Microsoft will soon reach its end of life for support for the Windows CE and Windows Embedded Handheld. Beginning in 2018 through 2020, Microsoft will phase out their support of various Windows Embedded Operating Systems.
Since most rugged devices are currently running these systems, it is a good time to begin to plan to move to other operating systems as you start to replace your older handhelds.
If you’re running a Windows CE or Windows Embedded Handheld today, these are the dates to be aware of:
- June 10, 2018 – Windows Embedded CE 6.0 will be End of Life
- June 9, 2019 – Windows Embedded 8.1 Handheld will be End of Life
- January 14, 2020 – Windows Embedded Handheld 6.5 will be End of Life
While 2020 seems far off, an upgrade strategy will help you to avoid problems in your operations as you change over.
Many suppliers of industrial scanners are starting a move towards shipping their devices with Android. In order to help our clients manage these changes we have recently released TransLution running on Android. In addition, we will continue to support our current Windows CE versions of EazyScan for as long as we are able to do so.
