RIVONIA SOUTH AFRICA (October, 2005) – AfriSoft Africa (Pty) Ltd recently announced that the SASKO Milling and Baking Group is installing TransLution Mill Manager as it’s product tracking system for its milling operation in Malmesbury.
This announcement follows hotly on the heels of the completion of the system at South Africa’s biggest flour mill; SASKO Klerksdorp. “We are of course delighted that TransLution is being installed at the Malmesbury Mill”, says Russell Kleyn, Director of Afrisoft Africa. Russell also comments, “The business benefit derived from the utilization of TransLution at the Klerksdorp operation has been significant. It stands testament to both the quality of our product and our commitment to the client”.
With the project already underway, SASKO Malmesbury is following in the footsteps of Klerksdorp in adopting new technology that will enable them to improve their real time visibility of their production environment.
Sasko (Suid-Afrikaanse Sentrale Ko”peratiewe Graanmaatskappy) was established on 7 October 1930. The main objectives were to control the production and marketing of wheat in South Africa. However, during 1934 the Wheat Control Board was established, and consequently Sasko entered the milling industry as a role player. The first milling activities commenced in Paarl, with the first flour brand being “Snow White Flour”, followed by “White Star Flour”. In 1938, Sasko also entered the baking industry when it started its milling activities at Liesbeeck Mill in Rondebosch.
Since its inception, Sasko had operational ties with Bokomo (established on 28 December, 1920). This eventually led to an amalgamation during 1997. Since then Sasko Milling & Baking has been operating as a division within the Pioneer Food Group, manufacturing a diversified portfolio of grain based, quality staple foods.
Today, Sasko Milling & Baking’s operational structure consists of wheat mills, maize mills, bakeries, distribution depots, the Sasko pasta plant and the Cadora crumbs and coatings plant. Sasko Milling & Baking is one of the three top bread manufacturers in South Africa with bakeries situated throughout the country. Sasko bakeries introduced the first vitamin and mineral enriched bread range to South Africans in 1994. In addition to bread baking, rolls and buns are produced at various bakeries to supply the fast food market segment
